Solvent odors

When you open the bags from the latest import delivery, you are hit by an unpleasant chemical smell.
If you leave the item open, the smell disappears.
After repackaging in a PE bag, the article starts to smell again.

You can’t hand him over like that!

What has been going on in Europe for 30 – 40 years has also been recognized in the last 10 years in the production countries, especially in the Far East:

Rapidly evaporating solvents, especially so-called aromatics such as toluene or xylene, quickly disappear from the production parts without any odor, but cause massive damage to the health of employees. As a result, these solvents have recently been replaced by solvents with low vapor pressure, even in low-cost production countries. Although this means that the employees of the producers have to inhale fewer harmful
gases, the replacement solvents often do not escape quickly enough from the adhesives, coatings, solvent dyes, prints, vulcanizations and… and… and… In production, measures for subsequent drying and degassing are often dispensed with for reasons of time and cost, although this would actually be necessary.

During transportation to Germany or the recipient countries, the atmosphere in the PE bag packaging slowly but surely becomes increasingly enriched with the outgassing solvent.

Effect: When the bags are opened in Germany, the smell of chemicals is all the stronger.

What needs to be done?

All measures that supply energy to the (adhesive) film, the foil, the coating, the print or whatever is the cause are suitable for stimulating the outgassing of the solvent and thus making the textile sustainably odorless in use.

This can be done by heating, irradiating, microwaving or tumbling/spinning.

We have adapted to these requirements and can help you quickly and cost-effectively by interval heating in industrial ovens, drying ovens and continuous finishers, or by drying in warm tumble dryers with exhaust air ducting.

In particularly “tough” cases, however, we can also resort to several alternative solvent cleanings and special washes to remove the cause of the problem using a different solvent.
